So now that we are born again, what should we do? Now we need to
spend our lives learning how to live as citizens of the Kingdom of
Light. Remember, until we became born again, Satan was our master
and he trained us to think like him. Now that we are citizens of
the Kingdom of Light or the Kingdom of God, we must change the way we
think because the way we think determines how we live. "For
you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as
children of light..." (Ephesians 5:8).
Remember the Bible says that we are the servant of the one to whom we
yield our bodies, and our lives, to obey. "For as you yielded
your bodily members and faculties (your five physical senses) as
servants of impurity and ever increasing lawlessness (or rebellion) so
now yield your bodily members and faculties once for all as servants to
righteousness (right being and right doing) which leads to
sanctification (or holiness)" (Romans 6:19 Amplified Bible).
In the same way we used to put all our effort into serving our old
master Satan, in the kingdom of darkness, we now need to put our efforts
into serving our new Master, Jesus, in the Kingdom of Light. The
Bible tells us clearly how to do this: "And so dear Christian
friends, I plead with you to give your bodies to God. Let them be
a living and holy sacrifice--the kind He will accept. When you
think of what He has done for you, is this too much to ask? Don't
copy the behaviors and customs of this world, but let God transform you
into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know
how good and pleasing and perfect His will really is"
(Romans 12:1-2 New Living Translation).
The Bible tells us we must present our bodies to God. Do you know
what God wants to do with your body? Already on the inside of
you--in your new spiritual nature--you are aware of things you need to
change. Do those things. The Holy Spirit, Who has come to
live inside you and lead you in this life, will show you the things you
need to change and will supply the power you need to change.
We also need to let God help us change the way we think. How does
that happen? By reading the Bible! The Bible contains the thoughts
of God. As you begin to read the Bible, you will begin to learn
how He thinks--and you will begin to think like Him. Start reading
in the New Testament (that includes the books from Matthew to
Revelation). You can get to know Jesus for yourself by reading the
four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke or John). They all contain
accounts of how Jesus lived. He showed us the way we are to live
today.
